The Grow2B Initiative is lucky to have our bee friends on site and hard at work! Cameron and Eva Lanata, our beekeeper guides, have made this natural partnership possible. Our bees are a rescued colony thriving in their new home at Grow2B and every day, we are amazed by the activity around the hive.
The Lanatas introduced the Grow2B Farm Team to a top-bar hive system and lead the routine hive inspections as we assess the health of our relocated bees. The Farm Team gets excited when it's time to inspect the combs on the individual bars and see the queen's progress in laying eggs.
Having the bees onsite reminds us daily how important it is to protect our natural pollinators. This start in establishing an apiary onsite sets the stage to build awareness in our community about pollinators and desirable habitat. As the Grow2B honey bees venture out into a radius that far exceeds the Sts. MM property, we see the importance in spreading the word about the role of bees and other pollinators in our environment. Stay tuned for future beekeeping workshops, community events, and native plant sales hosted by Grow2B!
